My SMTOWN concert experience
It's now almost exactly a day since SMTOWN started and I'm still having major withdrawals. Ahhhh.
To start from the beginning, went out before 12pm to collect my SNSD lightstick at 1pm. A lot of people were walking around City Hall with SMTOWN or artiste tees. The area around the venue was packed and the line to collect the passport was snaking.
With all events, of course there are problems. There were no ushers or staff managing the queue so I was unsure if I was in the right one. Also saw some of the ushers just standing around and talking. Finally collected my passport after almost an hour of queueing under the hot sun. I swear I was gonna pass out from the heat and the fact that my stomach was growling like a caged animal.
Oh yeah, Samsung staff was walking around and I got a tattoo.
Well, after all the queueing, wanted to walk around and see what activities were going on but it was too chaotic and stuff so we went to Marina Square's Pizza Hut to have lunch. Horrible service there where they basically ignored us for 15 mins when we were trying to order. Fast forward to a few hours and omg, it was raining super heavy with lightning and thunder.
Cue all the fans trying to find ponchos or raincoats. It was sold out so we were like damn, but lucky Kakak was still at work and could buy it for us. The rain miraculously went away about an hour before the concert so it was shaping up to be a good night.
Since the rain stopped about an hour before the concert, everyone was trying to get into the venue at the same time which led to chaotic scenes. It was hard to walk to Entrance 3 since the queues were spilling out and everyone was queuing to get inside to queue some more.
We managed to get in after about 20 minutes of jostling and shuffling with the crowd. The security were blowing their whistles and shouting, herding us along like we were sheep. They gave us our tags and we were supposed to go through a bag check which did not happen because again, the security herded us along like we were sheep. The guy just shouted "Move! Move quickly." Well, I was gonna crawl in, y'know. -_-
Finally made our way to our seats. Since we were unlucky buggers, we got row 16 but it was still a good distance away and we had a decent view.
We got in about 10 minutes before the scheduled start time of 6:30pm but obviously since it had just rained and the crowd were still trying to get in, it was delayed till around 7:10pm when the lights switched off and f(x)'s 'Hot Summer' played.
BAM! They were there in front of me, in the flesh, performing. Ah, totally fangirled for Krystal. Luna fell pretty hard due to the wet floors and they looked shocked but soldiered on. Amber asked the crowd to cheer for Luna after that, during the MC.
Just gonna post the setlist and talk about some of the interesting parts or parts that I remember.

I was super pumped for California Girls because, well, the Jung sisters in all their glory. And all of us were really jealous of that lucky fan who got to be serenaded by Changmin and Kyuhyun during 'Just the Way You Are'. Flippin' rocked out for Taeyeon's 'Devil's Cry' and screamed when my OT9 appeared on stage for RDR. Especially flipped out for my two biases, Tiffany and Yoona. So cute when they introduced themselves. I really love Tiffany because she really enjoys performing and loves to interact with the crowd. Sica forgot what the next song was so she had to ask Tiffany lol. Again, went out of my mind when Tiffany went, "Singapore! Put it back on!" Still as magical 2 years on.
I was disappointed that Siwon wasn't there which made Super Junior's performances less exciting for me. Sorry. :(
There were a lot of rock remixes and I bet the people who were around the area thought it was a rock concert in an alien language. Hahaha. The speakers were super loud but the music was still clear. I especially loved how everything looked like with all the lights of the CBD, MBS and the Helix Bridge. It all combined to make the visuals stunning. There was a problem with the side screen on our side but it was fixed although the one on the right was switched off so it kinda sucked for fans on that side.
Really loved the cover for 'Open Arms'. It was beautiful.
And then Taetiseo rocked the stage with 'Twinkle'. While watching the fancam, I realised they had male dancers instead of female and totally LOL cause the dance is totally for girls and seeing the big dudes dancing and doing the Twinkle movement is just so funny.
Man, the crowd was super pumped for the TTS x EXO collaboration of 'DJ Got Us Falling in Love'. It was superb. Kinda disappointed they didn't perform the full Maxstep, although getting to see Soshi abs is defintely still awesome.
One thing I noticed, since I am now officially a citizen of Music Nation SMTOWN, is the amount of propaganda, I mean videos, they showed about how SM music breaks down walls or whatnot and unites the world through songs. They showed quite a number of it throughout.
Although there was this one video where all of them were walking in this aeroplane hangar and it was just so epic seeing all of them like that. I really loved that clip. Just so classy and fierce how all of them were walking towards the camera. Someone find me that clip!
Then, the moment I was waiting for. My unnie's turn came! B-O-A! Damn, when the opening beats of Hurricane Venus came on, I chucked aside my SNSD lightstick and took out my Boa one. Hahaha. I thought I was the only Boa fan but the dude in front of me got pretty excited too. Although I realised that I was the only one holding a Boa lightstick.
Super flippin' out moment. Sang along to the songs, although I don't really know 'My Name' that well.
Her talk part was so cute. It was all in English. I love how she suddenly says "So hot" and everyone laughs. When she asked what the next song was and people were shouting "Only One!" She was like "That'll be later. Can you wait for that? Thank you." Which made us all laugh again. Oh you silly cute K Pop queen.
Experiencing 'No.1' live was such a rush. I adore that song and I've watched performances of her performing it 10 years ago and it was so surreal to see her performing it live in front of me. It was too short and she went off. Boo. Come back for a fanmeet or full concert please!
I totally danced to 'Sorry, Sorry'. Such a good song. Then Mr. Taxi came on and I went into full fangirl mode again. Those glittery outfits! Jonghyun's hot bod suddenly came into view and I was like, jaw to the ground. His performance with Taemin should totally be rated R-21. Super hot and sexy and a lot of head banging.
SNSD came to the mini stage for 'Gee' and looked so pretty. They were so close.
Hyo was in the wrong position and SooFany laughed at her. Hyo was hyped up for the performance and she was so cute. The stage went up and it looked like it was gonna break cause it wobbled so much and I was like "Don't fall my lovelies!"
They then got on the trolley things which was driven by buggies and it was driven kinda fast and the road was bumpy so they were hanging on for dear life. Someone screamed and Sica was crouching on the floor. Hahaha.
It started to rain during 'Only One', one of my favourite K Pop songs of all-time which was a bummer because people were running to take cover and everyone was busy trying to put on their ponchos/raincoats. I couldn't focus fully which annoyed me but I did shout as loud as I could for her.
Then it really started pouring during f(x)'s performance of 'Electric Shock' and poor them had to perform on the mini stage.
But they still did their best. By this time, everyone was like, screw it and were really hyped up. The atmosphere was electric. Electric shock!
Then SHINee had to brave the rain to perform and everyone just sang and danced along to "I'M SO CURIOUS YEAH!" Damn, it was awesome.
The first time I watched 'The Boys' live. I love love the outfits. And Yoona's messy bun makes her so pretttyyy. She really pulls of that look. Yoona, wae you so perfect? Of course fanchanted like a maniac and screamed and all that.
The concert was drawing to a close and what do you know, it totally stopped raining when they were performing 'Hope', the last song. It really was miraculous.
The last performance always has so many moments. Memorable mentions go to Yunho running to the front, Minho pulling him back in and Taeyeon... I still dunno what she was thinking. Hahaha. Boa dancing with an umbrella. Fany with Kangin pouring water down Kangta's back, being all angelic and hugging his arm then running away like nothing happened. All this happened with Boa watching in shock and amusement. Lol, kids.
Fireworks at the end was amazing. It really capped off an amazing night.
Chaos when trying to walk out. Someone fell in front of me because the floors were flooded and wet and slippery. Trying to get out was a nightmare because again, we were like sheep being herded out. Screams punctuated the air because some of the fans were watching the artistes leave.
Finally made it out and it rained again. Missed the train so waited for an hour before I managed to book a cab and we arrived home at 1:30am.
Ah, such an amazing experience. Please come again next year!
