AKB48 Beginner

LOVING AKB48's new single, 'Beginner'. It's a dark song and a total contrast from their previous single, 'Heavy Rotation'.

The original PV is bloody awesome too. It's like a gore PV, with Acchan getting stabbed in the hand and the scream she lets out is freakin' fantastic. I may sound sadistic but you have to watch it to understand.

I have mixed feelings about AKB48. On one hand, I like them. They're funny, pretty and have decent songs. This single is on it's way to be a million seller in Japan, selling 500 000 copies on the first day alone. That is AMAZING.

On the other hand, if they get a million seller, it kinda condemns Morning Musume further into obscurity. AKB48 are already national idols, at the peak of their careers where they easily sell 100 of thousands of copies.

Morning Musume were like that, during their peak, 10 years ago. They had a string of number 1 hits and sold thousands of copies. But then, when you're on top, you're bound to fall, and fall they did. They now sell a respectable 30 000 to 40 000 copies every single. But that pales in comparison to AKB. A lot of MM fans have shifted to the AKB army, and they're only growing in strength.

I want AKB to do well but at the same time, I don't want them to do well.

Ah, I should have stuck to listening to American music, where you don't become so connected to the singers. :-/ But it's too late to turn back when you're already stuck in, waist deep.
