North/South Korea War?
So the news that has been grabbing me is not about the H1N1 virus but of the possibility of a war between the two strained neighbours.
North Korea announced Wednesday it was abandoning the armistice that ended the 1950-53 Korean War and warned it could launch a military attack on the South, two days after testing an atomic bomb for the second time. The North are angry that the South joined a US led international initiative to stop the spread of weapons of mass destruction.
The South have been placed on high alert as they beefed up defence at the border. They are joined by 28 500 US troops. It was the fourth time since 1982 that the watch conditions (Watchcon) had been upgraded to stage two. The last time was in October 2006, after the North's first nuclear test.
The North's testing of nuclear weapons have been a major issue as it endangers the safety of the world if launched. With rumours of Iran also having nuclear weapons, it could mean the end of the world if there is a nuclear war. This two neighbours cannot get along due to the North being a communist state and shut out from the rest of the world.
My opinion? I'm too young to die. If there is a nuclear war, let it be in 50 years time so that I have ample time of living. The North/South war could be a naval one, and that still won't be fun. Lesson. Get along with your neighbours. Say hi to them. :D
